RPC over http/s problem. Outlook status remains disconnected.

By | January 19, 2009

You’ve deployed RPC over HTTP/s as per “How can I configure RPC over HTTP/S on Exchange 2003 (single server scenario)? ” document and when you test the functionality of both OWA and RPC using internet Explorer (https://webmail.yourdomain.co.za/exchange) and (https://webmail.yourdomain.co.za/rpc/rpcproxy.dll) it works. However, when you test the RPC connectivity on outlook 2003/2007 the status remains disconnected.

Resolution:

Open up outlook – Tools – Accounting Settings – Change – More Settings – Connection

Select Basic Authentication – Under Proxy Authentication Settings

If the above doesn’t fix your problem try the following:
Click start – Run – cmd – type nslookup – then enter
type – webmail.yourdomain.co.za
This should reveal the external IP address(xxx.xxx.xxx.xx). Copy or right down this info about external IP Address.
Now go and Right Click on start – go to Explore – C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc – open hosts and enter your external IP address for webmail.yourdomain.co.za.
(e.g)
xxx.xxx.xxx.xx   webmail.yourdomain.co.za
Save the changes, Close your hosts and restart your PC. After a reboot all should work.
Till next time…
